MEDICAL ASSISTANT PROGRAM

This program prepares a graduate to work
as an entry-level Medical Assistant. Within this general career category
are a number of specialty areas, including Administrative Office Assistant,
Clinic Assistant, Medical Office Manager, Phlebotomist, Physical Therapy
Technician in a doctor's office, clinic or hospital. Graduates will
be able to check vital signs, assist in physical examinations, electrocardiograms,
and perform basic laboratory tests.
During the classroom portion of training
students will be introduced to a variety of subjects ranging from microcomputers
and front office skills, to anatomy, physiology and the various systems
of the human body. Students will receive hands-on laboratory training
from the very first week of training.

PSYCHIATRIC ASSISTANT PROGRAM

This program prepares
a graduate to work as an entry-level Mental Health Technician, Psychiatric
Assistant, or Psychiatric Attendant in a mental health care facility.
Graduates are employed in mental health hospitals, drug & alcohol rehabilitation
centers, half-way houses, schools for the mentally retarded, social
rehabilitation centers and private counseling centers. Graduates are
able to assist in treatment and rehabilitation of mentally ill, mentally
retarded and substance-abuse patients. Students are also prepared in
Clinical Facility Management and Basic Clinical Procedures.
The classroom training includes training in subjects from developmental
psychology and psychiatric disorders & therapies to substance abuse,
clinical assessment & documentation, and medications & treatment. Psychiatric
Assistant students also receive training in CPR, Emergency First Aid,
vital signs & basic nursing skills, and aggressive patient management.

MEDICAL OFFICE ASSISTANT PROGRAM
This program prepares a graduate to work
as an entry-level Medical Front Office Assistant. Within this general
career category are a number of specialty areas, including medical office
receptionist, insurance billing and collection, appointment scheduler,
or medical records clerk. Graduates of the MOA program may be employed
in private physicians offices, healthcare centers, clinics, hospitals,
ambulatory care centers, and medical billing offices.
During the classroom portion of training students will be introduced
to a variety of subjects ranging from computer skills, medical front
office skills, OSHA regulations, medical terminology, patient confidentiality,
health insurance billing, insurance claims, ICD9 diagnosis codes, CPT
procedure codes, patient billing and record keeping and medical collection

PATIENT CARE ASSISTANT PROGRAM
The Patient Care Technician Program
prepares a graduate to work as an entry-level Patient Care Technician
in a hospital, nursing home, community clinic, or long-term care facility.
Graduates of this program will be able to assist nurses and physicians
in medical examinations and basic laboratory procedures and assisting
with basic nursing care services. Students will learn to perform Cardiopulmonary
Resuscitation (CPR), electrocardiograms (EKGs), phlebotomy check vital
signs, nurse assistant duties, and basic emergency first aid.
The Patient Care Technician Program is taught utilizing a combination
of classroom lecture, practical exercises in the medical laboratory
and real-world, on the job experience during the externship portion
of training. The PCT course includes training to enable you to take
exams to become a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA)

GENERAL ACADEMIC
INFORMATION:
In each program, a student will attend seven 100 hour classroom units
and 200 hours of externship, performed off-campus, for a total of 900
Clock Hours of training. Each week of class is a combination of classroom
lecture, and practical laboratory training. The classroom portion of
training takes approximately seven months to complete for a normally
progressing student. Students are graded weekly, and a written Progress
Report is issued at the end of each 100-hour classroom unit of training.
EXTERNSHIP
Upon the conclusion of the classroom portion of training, the student
gets the opportunity to use their accumulated knowledge and practical
skills by performing the final stage of their training program - the
Externship. Externship sites are typically doctor's offices, clinics,
hospitals, laboratories, physical therapy sites, pharmacies, optometry
facilities, dialysis centers, etc. This off-campus training will be
supervised by the personnel at the externship site and the student’s
performance will be evaluated on a weekly basis until the completion
of 200 hours. Upon successful completion of this final stage of training,
the student is awarded a Diploma.
